Bergkamp slams Arsenal tactics |
| |
Bergkamp thinks Arsenal lack real firepower. Could Hulk be the solution?
Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who is currently employed as a coach with his old club Ajax, has told newspaper Metro today that he feels Wenger is not using the right tactics.
Bergkamp still keeps an eye on the club in London where he won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups. Although he believes Arsene Wenger is the right man for the job to get the Gunners out of their current trouble, he thinks the currently used tactics are not bringing out the best of the squad, especially out of Robin van Persie.
"When I look at Robin van Persie, he is the front player, but he is better in my old role. They are missing an out-and-out goalscorer. Now they play with an extra midfielder instead.
"The midfielders are all the same sort of players. You need one who wants to get behind Van Persie.
"I know he's [Wenger] the one who will be struggling the most [in the current situation]. But with his experience, it'll be okay."
Bergkamp also reacted to questions about a promise he made in the past, to return to Arsenal someday.
"The plan is to be settled here [Holland] now I've built my house." he was quoted in Metro.
"But there is something that stays with me, something in my body that wants to go back to England one day as part of a coaching staff.
"That is always in my mind. I don't miss specific things but I miss the feeling, which I can't really explain. I haven't sold my house there yet."
Following Bergkamp's claims about Arsenal missing an out-and-out goalscorer, there was other news that could well bring the solution to this issue. Earlier today the agent of 25-year-old FC Porto striker Hulk confirmed that Arsenal have been in touch with him over the potential signing of the Brazilian striker. Hulk netted 36 goals for FC Porto last season, securing the domnestic treble and victory in the Europa League final.
However, the asking price might prove a stumbling block for Arsenal in this one. The Arsenal offer from the past that his agent refers to is thought to be around £23 million, while FC Porto are asking an incredible fee of £87 million.
"Every year there are more clubs interest in Hulk and I am also aware that there are clubs from outside the Premier clubs interested," his representative Fonseca told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
"This Arsenal rumour is news to me but it is true that there has been contact before but nothing happened.
"But I speak often with Porto and the figures have not changed. He will only be sold if someone pays the €100m (£87m) so this figure of £23m that has appeared would not be considered." |
