Previewing Leeds and Henry |
| |
Arsenal face Leeds for the FA Cup tonight. Can Thierry Henry add to his impressive stats when he returns for Arsenal after five years?
Wenger has stated that he rates a top four finish in the league over winning the FA Cup. Although I can understand his view considering the financial we will suffer if we miss out on Champions League football, but I consider the FA Cup to be our best chance of any silverware this season. A blog on Arseblog made me think about the question what is more important to me, and to all Arsenal-fans. I would love to win the FA Cup, but not at the cost of playing our European football on Thursday nights. It will be quite a job to get that fourth spot in the table, but I am confident we can manage. Nevertheless, tonight is FA Cup time, and we definitely need to beat Leeds, albeit to clear some of the disappointment Fulham left us with at the start of the new year. And unlike last year, it would be nice to avoid a replay in our already busy schedule and squad full of injuries and players at the African Cup of Nations. But honestly, and I think I’m not the only one, I am just really looking forward to Thierry Henry in the team again. The King is back, and might even make his second debut for the club tonight. Although I think we can’t expect miracles from the 34-year-old, it will be a massive morale boost to everyone connected to Arsenal. Before kick-off, when the speaker announces the player names, I hope the Emirates will remain intact. I am expecting an enormous, very loud roar that will send Leeds 3-0 down mentally and give us wings even before the start of the game. And then I am not even mentioning what will happen if he is actually brought on during the game. I’d love to see him grab a goal tonight on his second debut for the club. He is and will always remain a true legend, and he deserves it. And Leeds might well be a good opponent for him to do so. He has scored an incredible 9 goals in his last five games against them for Arsenal, including four goals in one game as Arsenal hammered Leeds 5-0 at Highbury on April 16, 2004. Progress would mean we face Aston Villa in the next round. Now let’s just hope we can pull it off tonight without our current top scorer. But with our all-time top scorer... |
