Arsenal is a football club from England, founded in 1886 as 'Dial Square'. The club changed it's name in 'Woolwich Arsenal' because the founders of the club were originally weapon manufacturers from the weapons factory in South-London. Because of that, the nickname 'The Gunners' was pretty obvious.
Arsenal play their games in red and white and play their home games at the Emirates Stadium since August 2006.
Arsenal are among the best clubs in England. The club has won the English Premier League on a number of times, among which the 2003/04 season when Arsenal got through the season undefeated. This made Arsenal the first club since Preston North End in 1888/89 to achieve such a record. This performance led to a European record of 49 games unbeaten. In the 50th game Arsenal lost to rivals Manchester United.
In 2006 Arsenal got into the UEFA Champions League final. FC Barcelona was the opponent in the Stade de France in Paris. Arsenal managed to grab the lead but lost 2-1 to the Spanish giants in the end. It was Arsenal's first ever appearance in the Champions League final.
Arsène Wenger was appointed as manager by Arsenal on the 1st of October in 1996 and he is still the manager at this moment, which makes him the longest serving and also most successful manager in the history of Arsenal.
