FC Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny has reportedly told Egyptian news website Ahram that he has undergone his medical with the Gunners on Saturday, and was going to sign his deal on Sunday.

Elneny, who joined FC Basel in january 2013, has become a key figure for the Swiss outfit and played part in three league titles. He has also helped Basel to reach the last 32 in the Europa League.

His arrival will mean more options for Arsène Wenger to choose from as his list of injuries is quite extensive as every year, as he has to cope without Cazorla, Arteta, Coquelin, Sánchez, Welbeck, Rosicky and Wilshere. With the announcement that Jack Wilshere won’t be back before February at least either, the Frenchman looks keen to add to his squad.

It is expected that Arsenal will announce the signing of Elneny soon after the game against Bournemouth. Despite having played for FC Basel in the Champions League earlier this season, he will not be cup-tied for the remainder of the season. It is rumoured that Arsenal pay around £5m for the Egyptian midfielder.

On Monday morning, Arsenal fans have probably taken over his Wikipedia page already, as it already says he is playing for Arsenal.
